What Is Citizen Science?
Research often involves teams of scientists collaborating across states or continents. Now, using the power of the Internet, non-specialists from anywhere on earth, (including children) are participating, too.
Our TOAST students collect data for scientists around the world.
TOAST scholars observe and/or collect:
ladybugs…Lost Lady Bug Program for Cornel University
clouds… S’Cool Program for NASA,
tulips…Tulip Planting for Journey North,
birds…Project Feeder Watch for Cornel U
fireflies…Project Firefly for the Museum of Science in Boston.
We send our findings (usually pictures and descriptions) to the scientists who are conducting the research. Without the students, there is no way they could collect all of this data!
