K'NEX and LEGOS
TOAST students love to build with LEGO and KNEX building kits.
Each year we enter ther JR FIRST LEGO Challenge. Last year we sent 12 students to represent TOAST.

Here is a photo of our Harvester Ants. They live in this green gel. The green gel supplies them with food, water and a place to live. All of our TOAST students learn about insect parts and insect life cycles.

EARTH DAY Nature Hikes at TOAST
This week, each class went outside on a Earth Day hike.
Mrs. La's third grade class learning about dandelions. From the French words, "dent de leon" or teeth of the lion, we ended up with the english word dandelion. Say, dent de leon, five times fast. Sounds like dandelion...huh.

Professor Hopkins joined us once again for a special lab. (Mr. David Hopkins is a Biology professor at the College of Saint Rose) Our fourth graders learned that there is whole world of living things below the surface of a pond.

This week we welcomed Professor Hopkins, Biologist from the College of St. Rose, as he led students on a, "Lichen Hunt!" Lichen is algae and fungi in a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship, or MSRB.

Albert Einstein's Birthday

We celebrated Albert Einsteins' birthday last week on March 14. (also Pi Day) He is probably the most famous scientist who ever lived. Research all of his great discoveries and learn how he changed the way we look at space and time.
